A contender for our most iconic farm. Wrapped around the ocean-facing east side of an extinct volcano, cane fields form three well-ordered rows from bottom to top.

Whilst the soil is entirely dominated by dark, rich Woburn clay, the variation of aspect and drainage offers a beautiful demonstration of terroir in action.

Water collects at the bottom of the slopes, nourishing lush, verdant cane for a weighty, intense spirit, whilst at the top, thinner, well-draining soils and ferocious winds ‘stress’ cane in a similar way to the amphitheatres of New Bacolet, forging entirely different characters in the spirit — more poise, elegance.

The central slopes a a marriage of both characters. Still free-draining, with some salt and wind scorch from the sea, but lusher and more protected than the uppermost slopes. A grand, ordered, almost stentorian character of a farm.

About Our Rum

Our Unique Production Process

History

River Antoine Estate is situated about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) SE of Lake Antoine in St. Patrick. It is an estate utilizing methods, equipment and technologies to produce rum that have been a part of the process since the 1700s. The grinding of the sugar cane is performed with machinery powered by a 24-foot high water wheel, a technology that differs very little from the days of slavery. Its surviving water-driven distillery is one of only a few operating in the Caribbean. River Antoine Distillery still uses this to operate today. Our Lake Antoine Farm, however, is not linked in any way to this Rum Company.
