The first, and largest, to the south, is a true jumble of terroirs. A veritable paintbox of soil types — clay, boulders, laterite — and an undulation of slopes and aspects from flat to steep, seaward- to landward-facing. Though one of the closest farms of all to the sea, the breadth of its valley an a screen of vegetation mean that winds are not as powerful as at the likes of Lake Antoine, Point and Old Bacolet, but sea breezes do make their way through. The latter two farms within Hope are a little easier to generalise. One broader, one merely a sliver, both sitting in hugely water-retentive swampland and entirely sheltered from sea winds by the lushness of surrounding vegetation. Hope as a whole defies simplification; a true entrepôt of cane and terroir flavours and characters to be identified and exploited.
